As
an artist, I sculpt unique furniture that people can
enjoy in their everyday lives. I choose to work in solid
wood because it is a versatile, durable, renewable resource,
with a friendly presence. Furniture making incorporates
the meticulousness of machining and the artistry of
sculpting.
I
began my career studying fine furniture design and construction
with the Jeffrey Green Design Studio in 1989. His award-winning
program taught me to incorporate each element as an
integral part of the design of the whole. This approach
contributes to my work as I attempt to showcase the
beauty of wood in each original piece I create.
Following
the apprenticeship, I worked for two high-end cabinetry/furniture
shops in New Hope, Pennsylvania and in Bethesda, Maryland.
My work included a wide variety of items: from Park
Avenue penthouse suite renovations; to pews at the Basilica
of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington,
D.C.; to 1700s-era farmhouse restorations. During this
time I was also designing and building my own fine furniture
in my spare time.
