Fine Woodworking

As an artist, I sculpt unique furniture that people can enjoy in their everyday lives. I choose to work in solid wood because it is a versatile, durable, renewable resource, with a friendly presence. Furniture making incorporates the meticulousness of machining and the artistry of sculpting.

I began my career studying fine furniture design and construction with the Jeffrey Greene Design Studio in 1989. His award-winning program taught me to incorporate each element as an integral part of the design of the whole. This approach contributes to my work as I attempt to showcase the beauty of wood in each original piece I create.

Following the apprenticeship, I worked for two high-end cabinetry/furniture shops in New Hope, Pennsylvania and in Bethesda, Maryland. My work included a wide variety of items: from Park Avenue penthouse suite renovations; to pews at the Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.; to 1700s-era farmhouse restorations. During this time I was also designing and building my own fine furniture in my spare time.

In 1994 my wife, Laura, and I spent one year traveling in the U.S., Mexico, and South America. These were some of the most enjoyable as well as educational moments of my life. Inca and Mayan stonework inspires me to this day. I began E3 Studio upon our return, becoming a self-employed furniture maker. My work has been shown in galleries from Chicago to Taos, and can be found in many homes and businesses from Alaska to Florida. In 1996 Laura and I moved to New Mexico to enjoy hiking, biking, skiing, and climbing, as well as building furniture inspired by the beautiful mountains of the southwest.
